Description

Born in the old bakeries of Gujarat and Maharashtra, nankhatai was India’s first cookie - baked golden in clay ovens long before factory-made biscuits came along. It carried a flavour all its own, rustic and homely, with besan giving it that nutty depth.

Each cookie is crafted with slow-roasted besan, ghee, and sugar - shaped by hand, baked till crumbly, and left to fill the air with a warm, buttery aroma.

At The 1970 Shop, we carry forward this craft without shortcuts - no palm oil, no preservatives, just honest ingredients and timeless technique.

Besan Nankhatai isn’t just a cookie - it’s the story of India’s own bakery tradition, tucked into every bite.
